Desiring the Arts Festival includes classics, more

The 2013 Desiring the Arts Festival will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at McSweeny’s School of the Performing Arts, 1633 N. 29th St.

The concert will consist of operatic and classical repertoire, contemporary Broadway and other musical theater songs, popular tunes, country music, jazz, and some original works.

Concert proceeds go to the McSweeny-Buhr Scholarship for the Arts, which is for graduating high school students pursuing further education/training towards a career in the arts.

Advance tickets can be purchased at the Michael G. Buhr Agency – American Family Insurance at 812 N. 15th St., and cost $5 students and $10 adults.

The concert will feature Sean Buhr, New York City; special guests Gabbi Sarcone, Molly Schunich and Sarah Bannon, of Des Moines; Pat Buhr, Patrick Flattery, Brian Sandvig, Eric Eittreim, and students from McSweeny’s School of the Performing Arts. Pianist Michelle Havlik-Jergens, Webster City, will also be featured and provide accompaniment. There will again be artwork by Vanessa Russell and Devon Black with the potential of a few others adding their work and/or fashion displays.
