Dodgers in state tennis action

CEDAR RAPIDS – Fort Dodge’s doubles team of Brian Murman and Andrew Stover went 1-2 as their run ended at the state tournament on Friday.

Murman, a sophomore, and Stover a junior, were returning to the state meet after last year’s 1-2 record.

The duo lost their first match to Clinton seniors Jacob Kruse and Ryan Schroeder. They lost the first set 6-4 and bounced back with a 6-4 win in the second set. Kruse and Schroeder closed out the match with a 6-3 victory.

“Brian and Andrew played a great match with a quality team from Clinton in the first round,” said Fort Dodge head coach Jared Feddersen. “A couple of points here or there and it really could have swung either way.”

Murman and Stover bounced back with a straight set 6-2, 7-5 victory over Dowling juniors Jack Pitsor and Matt Triplett.

“It was good to see the guys bounce back in the consolation bracket and get a solid win over a good Dowling pair,” Feddersen said.

Valley’s Ryan Peterson and Yasha Litvak ended the Dodgers’ tournament run with a 6-1, 6-1 victory.

“Although Brian and Andrew weren’t able to place,” Feddersen said. “Getting a win at the state tournament is a great experience that should give them something to try and exceed next year.”
