Dodgers pull away from Lynx
WEBSTER CITY – All phases of the game were clicking for the Fort Dodge softball team here Tuesday night.
Behind a two-hitter from sophomore Mallory Kilian, the Dodgers (1-0 overall) recorded a decisive 8-1 victory over Webster City in their first completed contest of the 2013 season.
Kilian (1-0) went the distance in the circle with nine strikeouts.
“I was very impressed by our pitching, defense and aggressive style of play,” said FDSH head coach Andi Adams. “Mallory and Taylor (Messerly) were just in a zone of their own.
“For the first time ever, I’m having Taylor calling the games because she wants to emulate all the great catchers. She also had a very clutch hit to drive in our first run.”
Lexi Astor and Cassie Tjebben each went 2-for-3 offensively for FDSH. Astror added two stolen bases and a run scored, while Tjebben crossed the plate twice.
“We just made a lot of things happen with our speed and took an extra base whenever we had opportunities,” Adams said. “I was so proud of how we didn’t get down on ourselves when things didn’t always go our way.”
Maddie Anderson and Allie Flaws each delivered singles for the Lynx (0-1), who were unable to overcome four errors. Third team all-state Webster City hurler Kaitlyn Biere fanned eight in the loss.
Next action for the Dodgers is Friday when they welcome Waterloo West for Black Out Night. First varsity pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
