Melvin Pratt, 69, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at home with his family by his side. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 24, 2013 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with burial following at the St. Olaf Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Melvin was born in Fort Dodge on October 16, 1943 to Glen and Nora (West) Pratt. He grew up and attended school in Fort Dodge. He worked for Iowa Beef Producers for 21 years and then owned and operated Mel’s Alternator & Starter Repair for 25 years and was very dedicated to his business. He married Margaret Gilbert in 1984. Melvin was a member of Webster County Pheasants Forever and the VFW. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and other family and friends. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and working on the hot rod with his grandson.

Melvin is survived by his wife Margaret; children Sherry (Matt) Michalski, Shawn Pratt and Sandra Pratt; stepdaughter Donna Seermon; stepson John; grandchildren Shelby, Dalton and Sage Michalski; step-grandchildren Madelyn and Rachel Seermon and his brother Glen Pratt. He was preceded in death by his son Teddy Pratt; his parents and 8 siblings.
