Garrigan fires 357, earns state berth

KINGSLEY – Another regional final, another title for the Bishop Garrigan girls golf team.

The Golden Bears fired a 357, easily ahead of runner-up LeMars Gelhen.

Alexa Capesius earned meet-medalist honors, shooting an 83. Haley Froehlich shot an 87, Rebecca Richter added an 88 and Brittany Arndorfer a 101. Makayla Foertsch carded a 103.

West Bend-Mallard’s Cassie Gearhart also advanced in the individual portion, finishing fourth with an 87.

Newell-Fonda placed sixth in the regional final with a 444. Jade Hess led the Mustangs with an 89.

The Class 1A state golf meet is set for May 28-29 in Marshalltown at the American Legion.

Humboldt advances to 4A state meet

STORM LAKE – The Humboldt girls golf team finished five shots ahead of Carroll, earning a runner-up finish at a Class 4A regional final here Monday.

The Wildcats, who finished behind only league rival Clear Lake, shot a 414.

Savannah Schnetzer led Humboldt with a 95.

The 4A state golf meet is May 28-29 at the Ames Golf and Country Club.

Travis moves on for SE?Webster-Grand

CLARKSVILLE – Southeast Webster-Grand’s Kelsey Travis shot a 90 here Monday, earning fourth and advancing to the Class 1A state golf meet.

It wasn’t enough for the Eagles to move on as a team, as they shot a 459, tying for fifth with North Tama. Grundy Center and Vitor-HLV earned the automatic spots.

Travis moved on as a top-five individual finisher and will play May 28-29 in Marshalltown at state.

Livengood, Ernst nab individual spots

LAKE CITY – Clarion-Goldfield’s Mikaela Livengood and East Sac County’s Makayla Ernst each shot 93s here Monday in a Class 3A regional golf final, earning themselves state tournament spots.

The pair finished tied for fifth, nine shots back of medalist Mara Masching of Carroll Kuemper.

Kuemper won the team title, while Unity Christian earned the other team spot at state. East Sac County finished two shots back of Unity Christian, firing a 392.

The 3A state golf meet is May 28-29 in Ames.

Lynx unable to move out of regionals

NEWTON – The Webster City girls golf team shot a 468 in a Class 4A regional meet here Monday.

Grinnell and Newton earned the team qualifying spots.
