LaVonne R. Gruver, age 82, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Pocahontas, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013.

Funeral services are 10:30 AM Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Pocahontas, Iowa with Fr. Paul Bormann officiating. Burial will be at Summit Hill Cemetery in Pocahontas, Iowa. Visitation is from 4 to 7 PM, Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at the Powers Funeral Home in Pocahontas, Iowa.

LaVonne Rose Craig was born October 6, 1930, in Spencer, Iowa. She was the daughter of Rose (Broderson) Craig. She attended country school and graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1948. On September 12, 1948, LaVonne married Robert Gruver of Emmetsburg. The couple farmed near Emmetsburg for several years before moving to a farm near Plover. In the mid 1960’s they moved into Pocahontas where LaVonne worked as a waitress at the Chow House. In 1969, they moved to Fort Dodge where LaVonne worked at the Lamplighter and Sandstone Restaurants.

LaVonne was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church as well as the Church Choir in Fort Dodge and a past member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pocahontas. She was a great mom who enjoyed spending time with her family and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Robert of Ft Dodge; children, Bill (Mary) Gruver of Pocahontas; Randy (JoAnne) Gruver of Otho; Richard (Barb) Gruver of Humboldt; Deb (Larry Lynch) Gruver of Fort Dodge; Tom Gruver of Winterset; David Gruver of Ft Dodge and Dan (Angela) Gruver of Altoona; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Lenore Pierce of Pocahontas and brother, James Craig of Pocahontas. LaVonne was preceded in death by her mother, Rose and a son, Robert.
