DUANE E. WOOD
LIVERMORE – Duane E. Wood, 79, of Livermore, passed away May 12, 2013 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Livermore. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Livermore. Visitation for Duane will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Livermore. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Duane E. Wood, the son of Leo and Esther (Hauck) Wood, was born July 2, 1933 on a farm near Arnold in the Livermore, Iowa area. He attended Country School and graduated from Livermore High School where he excelled at Football. At an early age, Duane began farming with his uncle, Clarence Hauck, a profession he loved and continued nearly his whole life. On July 11, 1954, Duane was united in marriage to Velma Ober, and the couple made their home on a farm south of Livermore where they raised their daughters.
Duane was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served numerous offices. Through the years he was also a member of the Twin Rivers School Board, the Beef and Pork Producers, Lions Club, and the Livermore Community Club. Duane also served as an officer of the Old Settlers Park where he worked for its preservation.
Duane loved his lifelong work as a farmer.When he did get away he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling with Velma and Sunday afternoon brush cleanup bonfires with his children.
Those surviving him are his wife, Velma; daughters, Linda (Billie) Scott of Livermore and Jennifer (Rich Shimon) Rolland of Livermore; grandchildren, Christel (Scott) Becker, Dustin (Andrea) Scott, Austina (Matt) Reetz, Bryson Scott, Eric (Amy) Rolland, and Emily (Justin) Shapiro; great grandchildren, Macy, Rylie, and Livvy Becker, Parker and Mallory Scott, Kiana and Domanic Reetz, and Trevor and Ty Rolland; special foreign exchange student, Lucia DeGrande Lopez of Sao Paulo, Brazil; brother, Warren Wood of Humboldt; and sisters, Erma Ohnemus of Livermore, Kathryn (Carroll) Ernst of Thor, Donna (Evert) Broesder of Algona, and Janice Bruhn of Fenton. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, William and Marilyn Wood; brothers-in-law, Wayne Ohnemus and William Bruhn; and various other sisters and brother-in-laws of Velma.
