Gael boys come up just short in NCC golf
CLEAR LAKE – The St. Edmond boys golf team finished Monday’s North Central Conference meet tied with Clear Lake atop the team standings.
The Lions, though, were given the league title based on the tiebreaker which took into account the fifth golfers score.
Clarion-Goldfield was third, with Webster City taking fourth and Humboldt fifth. Bishop Garrigan, Hampton-Dumont, Iowa Falls-Alden, Eagle Grove and Algona ruonded out the team standings.
“It was just another close meet,” said SEHS head coach Dan Streit. “The NCC is always tough from top to bottom, but I was real proud of our guys. We haven’t shot that well (at the NCC meet) for a long time. We’re really coming along strong right now.”
Colton Schnetzer of Humboldt was the meet-medalist, firing a 77. He tied with Shawn Snelling of Clear Lake and Clarion-Goldfield’s Chris Staudt, earning the title via tiebreaker.
Michael Faiferlick and Eddie Doyle each shot 78s to lead the Gaels, while Robert Flattery carded an 81 and Harrison Mayer an 82.
David Flattery added an 89 and Cal Coleman a 94.
Faiferlick shot matching 39s on both the front and back, while Doyle recorded a 37 on the back nine. Faiferlick and Doyle placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in claiming all-conference honors.
John Ferrell of Webster City and John Burns from Bishop Garrigan each shot 79s to lead their respective team, while Luke Terhark and Matt Miller had 90s for Algona.
