Bulldogs win again on girls side
EAGLE GROVE – The Algona girls clinched their fourth straight North Central Conference track and field championship here Monday, finishing well ahead of the field to continue their streak of dominance.
The Bulldogs dominated the relay events and closed with 156.5 team points, capturing gold in the 4×100 (52.27), 4×200 (1:50.65) and 4×400 (4:17.54). Abby Smith was also an individual winner in the shot put (37 feet, 8 inches).
Allie Flaws of Webster City was a double champ in the 100 (12.71) and 200 (26.49). The Lynx were second with 106.5 points.
Eagle Grove’s Tiffany Christensen also took home two titles, finishing first in both the 800 (2:06.67) and 1500 (4:55.12). Both the Eagle sprint medley (1:58.19) and distance medley (4:18.15) were golden as well. The distance medley time was an NCC record.
Humboldt (106) was third and Eagle Grove (74) placed fourth. St. Edmond (38) was eighth.
Other individual champions from the area included Hannah Lentsch of St. Edmond (high jump, 5-4); Humboldt’s Sam Larson (3000, 10:55.37); Eagle Grove’s Lexie Miller (100 hurdles, 15.62); Clarion-Goldfield’s Jossie Sann (400 hurdles, 1:08.60); Erica Lane of Humboldt (discus, 118-10); the Humboldt 4×800 (9:59.42); and the Humboldt shuttle hurdle (1:10.16).
Gael Mary Eide placed third in the 800 with a time of 2:27.
