Dodger girls fall to Ames
The Fort Dodge girls tennis team was unable to solve Ames here Tuesday night, falling 7-4.
Freshman Jaci Cochrane, did earn another straight-set victory at the No. 1 singles spot, defeating Judith Fan, 6-0, 6-0.
“Jaci played beautifully,” FDSH head coach Karine Feddersen said. “She is proving herself to be a real asset to the program.”
Senior McKellen Glassell earned the other win in singles, as she scored a straight-set win at the No. 5 singles spot for the Dodgers.
“McKellen never fails to impress me,” Feddersen said. “Her will to win has carried her to a perfect singles record this season.”
Fort Dodge made a run at the Little Cyclones in doubles, but it wasn’t enough.
Cochrane and Ayenna Cagaanan earned a 6-4, 6-0 win at the top spot, while Kari Grindberg and Emily Knight picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 2 position.
“Ames is a solid team, there is no doubt about that, but we have fierce competitor in our lineup who fight for every point,” Feddersen said. “Ames had to earn the win (Tuesday). I am looking forward to facing them again at regionals.”
These two teams will meet this Saturday in Ames in an opening round Class 2A team regional match. Action begins at 9 a.m. with the winner advancing to a meeting with Sioux City North on May 18 in Carroll.
