GRAETTINGER – Marvin Edward Knutson was born December 26, 1930, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Edward and Molly (Haahr) Knutson. Marv attended school in the Fort Dodge area where he grew up. He worked at Hormel’s for 35 years before retiring. Marv married his first wife, Pat, and together, they had three children: Barbara, Scott (and his son, Curtis Hemann of Fort Dodge) and Sheryl.

In April of 1995, Marv married Marilyn Hunefeld, and the couple lived in Graettinger. Marv spent many years of retirement at his lake cabin on Woman Lake in Longville, MN where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved playing cards, dice and trips to the casino with his wife, Marilyn. Most of all, Marv treasured the time he spent with his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apple of his eye. He will be greatly missed and will be remembered as a very patient and kind man.

On May 2, 2013, Marv passed away with his family at his side at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls from heart complications following surgery.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Marilyn of Graettinger; son, Scott Knutson; granddaughter, Lindsey Meiltz Schmitz of Boone; stepchildren: Randy (Bonnie) Hunefeld of Urbandale, Mark (Shayla) Hunefeld of Graettinger, Matt Hunefeld of Graettinger, Luke Hunefeld of Graettinger, LeAnn Dietrich (Doug) of Graettinger and Elizabeth Hoffman (Derek) of Graettinger; 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandsons.

Marv was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Pat; his daughters and sister.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Graettinger. Joyce-Alesch Funeral Home is caring for the family. Online Condolences:
