SE boys crowned champs in Boone
BOONE – Behind a balanced team effort, the St. Edmond boys claimed top honors at the Boone Invitational Tuesday night.
The Gaels registered 102 points. Host Boone (100), Nevada (96) and Webster City (82) all followed.
Hank Lentsch was a double individual champion for SEHS in the high jump (6-4) and 110 hurdles (15.07). Lentsch actually set a new school record in the 110 hurdles for a second straight meet.
Other Gael winners were Seth Reel (1600, 4:48.82) and the shuttle hurdle (Landon Hughett, Tristan Sitzmann, Matthew Bocken and Lentsch, 1:03.35).
Runner-up efforts for SEHS came from Bocken (110 hurdles, 15.92 and 400, 1:00) and the 4×400 (T.J. O’Tool, Hughett, Landon Peed and David Flattery, 3:45.15). Finishing third were Flattery (400, 55.24), Aaron McElroy (200, 23.94), Reel (800, 2:04.69) and the 4×800 (Peed, O’Tool, Flattery and Reel, 8:27.64).
“I was very pleased with our times and the way we ran,” said Gael head coach Bill Kibby. “It was a really fast meet that was almost like a practice, so everybody got a workout.”
On the junior varsity side, the Gaels (108) also posted a victory. Michael McCarville (3200), Hughett (110 hurdles), Jacob Hamilton (1600) and Sitzmann (400 hurdles) all received gold.
St. Edmond travels to the Ballard Invitational on Thursday. Action begins at 5 p.m.
