Philip, though born with Down Syndrome, was exceptional in all the ways that really matter in life…loving, caring, gentle in spirit…a child of God who was an inspiration, not a burden, to those whose lives he touched with his kind-heartedness. Nearly all of his adulthood was spent at New Hope Village, Carroll, in a group homewhere he thrived on the companionship and friendship of his housemates andcaregivers. He warmed hearts with his humor. He loved to sing in church and offer prayers at mealtime. He regularly attended both Presbyterian and Catholic services in Carroll. He enjoyed watching the Lawrence Welk Show, Johnny Carson tapes and James Bond movies. He answered to the name “Double-O Seven.” Phil enjoyed bowling, horseback riding and other outdoor activities while in good health. As his health deteriorated during the final years of his life, he moved to a residential cottage on the New Hope campus and then to Community Care Center inStuart.
