Gaels fire 146, top IF-Alden
The St. Edmond boys golf team earned a 146-163 North Central Conference dual over Iowa Falls-Alden Monday.
Eddie Doyle recorded a 33 to lead the Gaels, while Robert Flattery contributed a 37,
Both Michael Faiferlick and David Flattery carded rounds of 38, with Cal Coleman and Harrison Mayer adding 43s.
“I’m really proud of the boys,” SEHS head coach Dan Streit said. “We’ve been working really hard and a 146 is the lowest score I have ever seen since I’ve been at St. Edmond.
“We’re playing pretty good and very consistent right now.”
St. Edmond returns to action today at Lakeside Golf Course against Humboldt and Eagle Grove.
In junior varsity action, the Cadets won 190-195. Brady Reiling shot a 43.
Gael girls compete at Cadet Relays
IOWA FALLS – The St. Edmond girls track team placed fourth at the Cadet Relays on Monday night.
Hannah Lentsch was an individual champion for the Gaels in the high jump (5-0).
Mary Eide also finished second in both the 800 (2:33.42) and 1500 (5:33.75). Other SEHS runner-up efforts came from Kara Salinas (400 hurdles, 1:15.90), the 4×800 (Clare Flattery, Salinas, Mary Claire-Li and Leah Cosgrove, 11:35.59), the distance medley (Madi Reel, Lentsch, Maddie McCarville and Carter Waddell, 4:52.69) and the sprint medley (Libby Augustine, McCarville, Lentsch and Reel, 2:00.24).
In addition, the Gaels received third-place showings from Eide (400, 64.39), Jaci Brungardt (400 hurdles, 1:16.20), the 4×200 (Augustine, Reel, Maric Salocker and Flattery, 1:58.18) and the 4×100 (Reel, Lentsch, Augustine and McCarville, 54.85).
“This (Cadet Relays) is always a fast running meet, so there wasn’t a lot of rest in between,” said St. Edmond head coach Donn Larson. “Our splits are coming down, which is good. Now, we have to try and figure out how to put together things for districts (the Class 2A, District 2 meet is set for May 9 in Emmetsburg).”
Next outing for the Gaels is Thursday at Bondurant-Farrar. Start time, weather permitting, is set for 5 p.m.
Dodger girls fall to Dowling at net
The Fort Dodge girls tennis team suffered a tight 6-5 home setback to West Des Moines Dowling Monday night.
Kari Grindberg, Emily Knight and McKellen Glassell all posted singles triumphs for the Dodgers.
In doubles, the duos of Grindberg and Knight and Glassell and Kjerstin Grindberg both recorded victories.
“The girls player hard, but we couldn’t pull out wins when we needed,” said FDSH head coach Karine Feddersen. “Emily did a great job of reading her opponents in singles. It was a battle to the finish, but she was able to figure out how to finish on top. Kari also did a fantastic job of staying in control.”
Junior varsity winners for Fort Dodge were Kelsey Albrecht, Emma Bruen, Ashton Pederson, Ashley McBride, Taylor Shirbroun, Mackenzie Elsbecker, Elli Russell and Ruth Tomlinson.
The Dodgers host Mason City today for a 4 p.m. start time.
Fort Dodge boys handle Dowling
WEST DES MOINES – The Fort Dodge boys tennis team claimed a decisive 8-3 road victory over West Des Moines Dowling on Monday.
Brian Murman, Caleb Hendrickson, Andrew Stover, Seth Dolan and Ben Ahlers all picked up singles wins for the Dodgers (2-2 overall).
In doubles play, the tandems of Murman and Stover, Hendrickson and Dolan and Nick Pecka and Rob Leigh each prevailed.
On the junior varsity side, Jacob Deuel and Brandon Trueblood teamed earned a doubles triumph for FDSH.
The Dodgers open league play today at Mason City. Start time is set for 4:15 p.m.

Gael girl golfers go under 200, down IF-A
IOWA FALLS – The St. Edmond girls golf team picked up a 197-214 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden Monday night.
Emma Halligan was the meet-medalist with a 45, tying teammate Melissa Mikos. Halligan won on the tiebreaker.
“The ladies did a good job, finishing with our lowest nine-hole score of the year,” SEHS head coach Justin Faiferlick said. “The girls have adjusted their game and made improvements each day.”
Maggie Fitzgerald added a 50, Lauren Moeding a 57, and Autumn Essing and Mya Lacina 62s.
Jada Myers was the junior varsity meet-medalist with a 56, leading St. Edmond to a win.
The Gaels return to action today at Humboldt against both the Wildcats and Eagle Grove at 4:30 p.m.
