St. Edmond boys sweep at the nets

SIOUX CITY – The St. Edmond boys tennis team improved to 4-1 on the young season with a sweep of Sioux City Heelan here on Saturday.

The Gaels won all six singles matches and all three doubles events.

Only one SEHS player went to three sets, as John Eide held off Kolby Jones, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 10-7.

The Gaels return to action on Tuesday, facing Clear Lake at home.

Gael girls clip Heelan

SIOUX CITY – The St. Edmond girls tennis squad posted a narrow 5-4 victory over Sioux City Heelan here on Saturday.

The Gaels (3-1 overall) used a victory in the last doubles match by Madeline Baldwin and Jazmine Myers to prevail.

Ellen Chalstrom, Claire Crimmins, Myers and Baldwin all prevailed in singles competition for St. Edmond.

SE girls 5th at Kuemper Invite

CARROLL – The St. Edmond girls golf team played in the Carroll Kuemper Invitational here Saturday.

The Gaels were fifth out of 11 programs with a score of 406. Host Kuemper (359) won the meet.

Emma Halligan paced St. Edmond with a 92, which tied for 10th individually. Melissa Mikos (100), Maggie Fitzgerald (102) and Autumn Essing (112) had the other counting scores for the Gaels, who return to action at Iowa Falls on Monday.

Tritons fall in softball

JOHNSTON – The Iowa Central softball team dropped a pair of games to third-ranked Kirkwood here Saturday.

Scores were 15-0 and 6-0 in favor of the Eagles (42-3 overall, 22-0 in the ICCAC).

On Friday, Iowa Central (13-31, 3-19) suffered a pair of setbacks, losing 8-5 in nine innings and 5-3 to Southwestern (22-12, 15-9).

The Tritons face Ellsworth at 1 p.m. in Iowa Falls on Sunday.
