ROCKWELL CITY – Phyllis J. Auen 85, passed away Monday, April 22, 2013 at the Sunny Knoll Care Centre, Rockwell City. Her wishes were to be cremated. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, at the Church of Christ, Rockwell City, with Pastor Owen Englin officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Church, until service time. Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City is serving the family.

Phyllis is survived by her husband Richard; children, Judy (David) Howrey of Rockwell City, and Jack (Linda) Ausborn of Ida Grove; several step-children; 4 grandsons, Josh (Marci) Howrey of Rockwell City, Lucas (Annette) Howrey of Pleasant Hill, Scott (Melissa) Ausborn of Ames, and Brad Ausborn of Bemidji, MN; 9 great-grandchildren, Miranda, Kaitlyn, Tiffany, Heather, Brayden, Ethan, and Josie Howrey, and Owen and Aunya Ausborn; her sister Helen Weeber of Ida Grove; and nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her son Jerry Ausborn; grandson Eric Ausborn; infant great-grandson Matthew Owen Howrey; parents, Reuben and Maggie Lewis Bruner; sisters, Clara Russell and Vera Janssen; and nieces, Vergie Hill and Donna Hedges.

Phyllis Jean Bruner Auen was born May 19, 1927 on a farm south of Sac City, Iowa. She graduated from Lytton High School, with the Class of 1944. Phyllis worked as a waitress, and was a homemaker. In 1946, she was united in marriage to Fred Ausborn, and the couple later divorced. In July 7, 1962, she married Richard Auen, and the couple made their home in Sac City. In 1974, they established their home in Rockwell City. Phyllis was an active member of the Church of Christ, Church Women’s Council, past Chairperson of the Funeral Committee, and delivered Meals on Wheels. Phyllis was a very active person until her health failed her. In July of 2012, she became a resident of the Sunny Knoll Care Centre.
