Iowa Central fall short

In an offensive slugfest, the Iowa Central softball team was swept by Marshalltown Saturday at Rogers Sports Complex

The Tritons (12-24 overall, 2-12 in the ICCAC) were downed by scores of 15-6 and 15-7.

Kelsey Penneau tallied three hits in game one for Iowa Central, while Chelsy Krantz (Fort Dodge), Katie Newbury, Jami Koethe and Sammie Hildreth all added two hits.

“Our errors killed us again, (Marshalltown’s first four runs were all unearned), but we really battled,” said ICCC head coach Josh Sandin. “We did a lot of things well, and our approach really picked up the last four innings.”

Koethe and Newbury both recorded three hits in the nightcap. Krantz, Morgan Fisher and Penneau each chipped in a pair of hits.

Krantz, Newbury, Fisher and Penneau all had doubles on the day.

“We hit the ball hard right at them and couldn’t catch a break,” Sandin said. “Having 28 hits in a doubleheader is awesome, but it’s just a matter of making plays.”

Mackenzie VanDenBerg (3-10) and Kaitlynn Morrison (0-4) each took losses in the circle. Marshalltown (14-16-1, 9-7) finished with 29 hits in the twinbill, including eight home runs.

Iowa Central returns to action here today, hosting No. 8 (NJCAA Div. II) Des Moines Area (27-1, 14-0). First pitch is set for noon.
