Dodger boys in action again on the track

WATERLOO – Competing for a second straight night, the Fort Dodge boys track team participated in the Gordy Yuska Relays on Tuesday.

The Dodgers placed 13th. Host Waterloo West was the winner.

Keegan Jones led the way for FDSH with a runner-up performance in the 400 hurdles (56.81), while Connor Hubbard placed third in the discus (140-0).

Cray Washington (100, 11.37) and the 4×200 (Keegan Myers, Austin Anderson, Jones and Washington, 1:34.79) each checked in eight for the Dodgers.

“I knew with this cold weather that we were not going to run well (last night),” said Fort Dodge head coach John McBride. “We took a bunch of kids out and didn’t want to run anyone hard.”

Next meet for the Dodgers is Thursday at the Cedar Falls Invitational.

Dodger boys sweep DM?North at nets

The Fort Dodge boys tennis team earned a 9-0 victory over Des Moines North Tuesday afternoon at the Dodger courts.

Brian Murman earned a straight-set victory over Josh Swagler, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 1 singles position to lead Fort Dodge (1-1 overall).

Caleb Hendrickson, Andrew Stover, Nick Pecka and Rob Leigh all posted 6-0, 6-0 wins, while Seth Dolan earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory.

Hendrickson and Dolan, Nathan Moore and Ben Ahlers, and Steve Liao and Austin Sanford all earned doubles victories, as well, for the Dodgers.

“After having a long layoff since our last meet due to the weather, the guys were really excited to get out and play well,”?FDSH head coach Jared Feddersen said. “Getting some solid wins in this meet should help us prepare for some tough meets we have coming up.”

Dodger girls blank DM North, 11-0

DES MOINES – The Fort Dodge girls tennis team had no trouble with Des Moines North Tuesday, cruising to an 11-0 victory.

Kari Grindberg (8-2), Emily Knight (8-2), Kjerstin Grindberg (8-2), Allison Birnbaum (8-1), McKellen Glassell (8-1) and Elizabeth Thomas (8-1) were all winners in singles action for the Dodgers.

In doubles play, the duos of Kari Grindberg and Knight (8-0), Birnbaum and Abby Shimon (8-0), Kjerstin Grindberg and Glassell (8-1), Thomas and Jamie Haden (8-0) and Maci Knutson and Kelsey Albrecht (8-0) each prevailed.

“Allison Birnbaum played steady and controlled tennis, and I was proud of her,” said FDSH head coach Karine Feddersen. “Elizabeth Thomas also did a great job of stepping into varsity singles.”

On the junior varsity side, Erika Farr (8-0), Emma Bruen (8-3), Ashley McBride (8-3), Ashton Pederson (8-0), Mackenzie Elsbecker (8-0), Taylor Shirbroun (8-2), Brianna Barkema (8-0) and Elli Russell (6-3) all posted triumphs for the Dodgers.

Dodger girls stopped by Dowling

The Fort Dodge girls golf team dropped a dual to Dowling Catholic Tuesday at the Fort Dodge Country Club, 163-205.

Kylie Kuiper and Angie Ellendson led the Dodgers (0-1 overall) with low rounds of 49, while Payton Christy added a 53.

For FDSH head coach Kristi Clark, the meet served as a key purpose since it allowed the Dodgers to actually play some holes.

“Prior to (Tuesday), we had played two hole and been on the range three times,” Clark said. “The Dowling coach told me they have had several more practices and it showed, which I expected.”

Alex Hays contributed a 54 and Ciara Sturm a 55 for Fort Dodge, which returns to action Thursday at Otter Creek.

Sarah Splittgerber recorded the low-round for the Maroons, firing a 36.

Jozlynn Porter led the Dodger junior varsity with a 56, while Nicole Cook and Cholee Narber added 67s.

Garrigan handles SE?girls on links

The Bishop Garrigan girls golf team posted a 196-247 victory over St. Edmond Tuesday at Lakeside Golf Course.

Alexa Capesius led all golfers with a low-round of 42, while Haley Froelich added a 47. Both were members of the state-title winning team from a year ago.

Melissa Mikos led the Gaels with a 58, while Autumn Essing chipped in a 59.
