GOWRIE – Robert D. Gordon, age 77, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2013 at Trinity Regional Medical Center, Ft. Dodge. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 16 at Zion Lutheran Church, Gowrie with Pastor Jim Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Gowrie Township Cemetery. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Monday, April 15 at the Palmer Funeral Home in Gowrie.

Survivors include his wife, Almeda Gordon of Gowrie; sons, Stewart (Jane) Gordon of Waterloo and Matthew (Kim) Gordon of Ft. Dodge; daughters, Kim Tjepkes of Jefferson, Brett of West Des Moines, and Stephanie (Chad) Heinze of Manson; grandchildren, Kyle, Larin, Kirby, Courtney, Boston, Collin and Brandon. Preceding him in death are his parents, Kenneth and Esther (Sandvig) Gordon and brothers, Kenneth Gordon, Jr. and Dale Gordon.

Robert Don Gordon was born on July 20, 1935 at Spencer and graduated from the Manson High School in 1953. He graduated from Buena Vista College in 1957 and continued his education later at Texas Tech and Iowa State University.

Robert was united in marriage with Almeda Erholm on May 12, 1957.

Robert taught school in Lanyon and later Prairie of Gowrie where he started the football program. In 1974, he was employed for Norine Insurance and later operated Gordon-Bower Insurance and Realty. Presently, he was employed as a realty broker for Security Savings Bank in Gowrie.

Robert was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Rose Lodge #506, Ft. Dodge Shrine Club, a former mayor and city councilman, a volunteer EMT for the ambulance, and a Stephen Minister. He served on the board of directors for Webster-Calhoun Cooperative Telephone Association and Heartland Mutual Insurance.

Memorials may be left for Zion Lutheran Church and the Shriners Hospital for Children in Minneapolis.
