RUTHVEN – Alice E. Hansen, 95, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at the Ruthven Community Care Center.

Services at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the United Methodist Church, Ruthven, with the Rev. Roger Maize officiating. Interment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Ruthven. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven.

Alice Elizabeth Hansen, daughter of Walter and Mabel (Markley) Schultz, was born December 27, 1917. She received her education and graduated from Emmet Consolidated School.

Following high school Alice began teaching elementary students in a rural school near Gruver. She later taught at Graettinger and Spencer schools. Alice attended Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls to complete her certification.

On December 3, 1944 Alice was united in marriage to Roscoe W. Hansen in Estherville, Iowa. To this union four children were born. After the children were older, Alice did substitute teaching in Ruthven.

Alice was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church and the Sarah Circle in Ruthven. She taught Sunday School for many years and was active in the PTA in Ruthven. Alice was a Charter member of the Federated Women’s Club.

She is survived by her children, Lavonne and Dr. Richard Jacobson of Fort Dodge, Peter and Patricia Hansen of Ruthven, Roger Hansen and Courtney Damkroger of San Francisco, CA and Joann Henderson of Peoria, AZ; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roscoe; a granddaughter, Kimberly; and a brother, Donald Schultz.
