Walk benefits Opportunity Village

The 44th annual Benefit Walk to raise money for Opportunity Village will be held May 5 and offers routes of one, three or 10 miles at Fort Dodge or Clear Lake.

The goal this year is $150,000. Last year’s Benefit Walk raised more than $125,000 for Village services. Opportunity Village, a nonprofit organization, serves nearly 600 individuals across the northern part of Iowa.

The annual Benefit Walk recruits walkers to raise sponsorships from friends and family to support people with disabilities served by Opportunity Village around Iowa. Registration packets are available at the Village General Stores in Fort Dodge and Clear Lake, at the Village’s main office in Clear Lake, or the administrative office of Northwoods Living in Pine House, 1470 21st Ave. N. Walkers can also email to information@oppvill.org or phone (641) 357-5277 to have packets mailed.

Walkers can use sponsor envelopes to collect donations or create online fundraising pages at www.firstgiving.com/opportunityvillage. Donors may wish to sponsor walkers with a check; or they can go to www.firstgiving.com/opportunityvillage or a walker’s personal FirstGiving fundraising page to sponsor a walker online by credit card.

Walkers who raise at least $100 get a Benefit Walk T-shirt and those who raise at least $1,000 will get a special sweatshirt with the Village logo.

The Fort Dodge routes will all start at Kennedy Park on Webster County Road P56. Walkers will follow the Fort Dodge recreation trail, going different lengths, and returning to the park. A picnic and prizes follow the Benefit Walk. In Fort Dodge, the he 10-mile route starts at 12:30 p.m. and the three-mile and one-mile routes start at 2 p.m. Vehicles will provide support along the trail.
