Not guilty plea entered for Crawford

A Fort Dodge man accused of trying to kill his ex-wife has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Larry D. Crawford, 43, 339 Loomis Ave., was charged with attempted murder in connection with an assault on Jolene Crawford.

Charles Kenville, Larry Crawford’s attorney, filed the written plea Wednesday.

No trial date had been scheduled as of Wednesday afternoon.

Officers were called to the Crawford home at 339 Loomis Ave. on March 2 after an assault was reported. When they arrived, they found Jolene Crawford, 39, unconscious in her bedroom.

According to police reports, she had suffered blunt force head trauma.

Crawford was taken to Trinity Regional Medical Center for treatment before being airlifted to a Des Moines-area hospital in critical condition.

At the request of Crawford’s family, hospital officials are no longer publicly releasing her condition. She was reported to be in critical condition as of March 11.

Larry Crawford is being held in the Webster County Jail on $1 million bond.
