Donald Herbert Summers, 90, died on Friday, March 23, 2013 at the VA Central Health Care System in Des Moines after a battle with cancer.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William Herbert Summers and Jennie (Carlson) Summers; his wife, Irene (Zuetlau) Summers; and Eileen Rude, Don’s companion and friend of over twenty years. Don is survived by nephews, William Summers and Rick Summers. He will be deeply missed by Carol Rude Tjaden, Nancy Rude Kolb (Vincent) and Edward Rude (Joan); eleven grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Don lived his entire life in the Fort Dodge area. Don was a World War II Army Veteran. He married Irene Zuetlau in 1944. Don’s lifetime vocation was working with cars. He took great pride in his twenty-four years of service with the Ford Motor Company. Don actively supported those who served their country through the military and law enforcement agencies throughout his life.

Don has generously gifted his body to the University of Iowa for anatomical and surgical study. No services are planned at this time.
