HUMBOLDT – Sherman J. Applegate, 64, of Humboldt, passed away March 24, 2013 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt with the Rev. Gene Broughton officiating. Interment will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Sherman was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Sherman and Gladys (Blaha) Applegate on March 26, 1948. He grew up in the Gilmore City area. In 1966 he married Carolyn Pirie in Fort Dodge and raised four children. He was employed as a welder for over 30 years at the Chantland Company in Humboldt. Sherman enjoyed gardening for many years before his health made it so that he could no longer tend to it. He really enjoyed sharing his produce with those around him. He also enjoyed fishing and visits from his grandkids, great grandkids, and the company of his friends.

Sherman is survived by his daughter, Tracy (Marlin) Stiawalt of Humboldt; son, David (Sara) Applegate of Humboldt; and daughter, Kim (Denis) Koch of North Carolina; sister Darlene Kramer of Hardy; 12 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.

Sherman was preceded in death by his youngest son, Todd Applegate; brother, Marion; his parents; infant grandson, David; and other loved ones.
