GOWRIE – DeWayne L. Fiala 83, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the Gowrie Care Center. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, at the United Church of Christ/ Congregat-ional, Moorland, with Pastor James Davis officiating. Burial will be at Elkhorn Township Cemetery, Moorland, with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Greenfield-Hartquist American Legion Post #699 of Harcourt. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Palmer Funeral Home in Gowrie. Memorials can be made to American Cancer Society, Iowa Hospice, or the United Church of Christ/Congregational in Moorland.

DeWayne is survived by his children, Alan (Christy) Fiala of Webster City, Karen (Mark) Smit of Boxholm, Tim (Kathy) Fiala of Creston, and Paul (Erin) Fiala of Ames; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and brother Roger Fiala of Tehachapi,California.

He is also survived by Florence Hagge’s children, Kirk (Gina) Worrel of Waukee, Kim (Wayne) Carlson of Paton, Kevin Hagge of Waukee, and Corrine (Marvin) Jensen of Gowrie; 8 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

DeWayne was preceded in death by his wife Edna; sons, Thomas and Stephen Fiala; parents, Joseph and Minnie (Urban) Fiala; brother Walter Fiala; and special friend Florence Hagge.

DeWayne L. Fiala was born July 6, 1929 at Moorland, Iowa. He graduated from Moorland High School, with the Class of 1947. DeWayne served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On October 3, 1951 he was united in marriage to Edna Croonquist at the United Church of Christ/Congregational in Moorland. The couple established their home near Gowrie, where they farmed and raised livestock. Edna passed away in 1988. DeWayne was a member of the United Church of Christ/Congregational, Elkhorn Cemetery Board, Webster Co. Fair Board, Pork Producers, Cattlemen’s Association, ASCS Committee, and a past 4-H Leader.
