Shivers is state finalist
Imani Tyshae Shivers, of Fort Dodge, has been chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Iowa Pageant, April 13 and 14 in Waterloo.
Shivers, 11, a sixth-grader at Fair Oaks Middle School, will compete in the preteen age division. Her parents are Sahara Gibson and Myesha Brown. Shivers’ activities include basketball, volleyball, cheer and dancing. She also enjoys choir and band.
The winner will receive a $1,000 cash award along with the official crown and banner, and will be sent to the national pageant in California.
The National Miss pageants strive to keep all activities and competitions age-appropriate. Girls under age 12 are not allowed to wear make-up, and there is no swimsuit competition. Emphasis is put on inner beauty, developing self-confidence, good sportsmanship, and setting and achieving personal goals. Each year the pageant awards nationally $1.5 million in cash, scholarships and other prizes.
