FDPD: Car ran stop light
A man was sent to the hospital Thursday morning after a two-car accident in downtown Fort Dodge.
Frank Patterson, 79, 122 Third Ave. N., was driving his 2000 GMC pickup westbound on First Avenue South at 8:23 a.m. when it was broadsided by another vehicle, according to the Fort Dodge Police Department.
Patterson’s pickup was hit in the intersection at South Seventh Street by a 2004 Chevrolet Impala driven by Shawn George, 25, 630 12th Ave. N.
George, who was southbound, ran the stop light at the intersection, according to the accident report.
The impact caused Patterson’s pickup to roll onto its side.
Fort Dodge firefighters had to use extraction tools to remove Patterson from his pickup. He remained conscious and was talking to rescuers and officers as he was being removed.
Patterson was taken to Trinity Regional Medical Center for treatment. He was not listed as a patient there Thursday afternoon.
The pickup he was driving sustained severe damage to the passenger side from the impact and additional damage when it overturned onto the driver’s side, according to the accident report.
George was not injured.
He was cited for failing to obey a traffic control device and registration violation.
