Names released in WC bus crash

WEBSTER CITY – The driver of a MIDAS bus that crashed Tuesday may have suffered a medical issue.

Terry L. Worthen, 61, of Webster City, and six young passengers were taken to Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City after the accident, Webster City police said.

Hospital officials confirmed that five of those transported were treated and released. Two victims were transferred to other facilities for further treatment.

The bus crossed into oncoming traffic on Second Street, struck another vehicle and then crossed the traffic lane and struck a utility pole. It continued onto property at 822 Second St., striking a parked vehicle, and coming to rest.

Officers and witnesses at the scene said Worthen may have experienced medical symptoms just prior to the accident, according to a police report.

The six children aboard the bus, all from Webster City, were Pedro Ramon Sosa, 9; Alexis Villalobos, 9; Ana Villalobos, 7; Orlando Celis, 6; Carol Merida, 5; and Raily Merida, 7.

The driver of the other vehicle involved, Jose Torres, of Webster City, was not injured.
