FDSH girls compete at state bowling
DES MOINES – Things didn’t go quite as planned for the Fort Dodge girls bowling program Tuesday in the Class 2A state meet at Plaza Lanes.
The Dodgers placed ninth out of 10 teams, firing a total score of 2,648.
Christina Hemann led the way for the Dodgers, rolling games of 194 and 185 for a 379 series. Michaela Spaulding (172-206-378), Shelby Jacobson (166-191-357), Allison Birnbaum (164-187-351), Samantha Witte (164-152-316) and Ciara Sturm (124-167-291) rounded out the FDSH lineup.
“I guess it just wasn’t our day,” said Dodger head coach Don Ervin. “Our shot was there, but we couldn’t get organized. We started off slow and came back, but it just wasn’t quick enough.”
Waterloo West (3,152) claimed top honors, followed by Ottumwa (3,039). Alexus Wilson (257-246-503) from the Wahawks earned individual gold, while 2012 state champion Brittany Smith (246-228-474) of Des Moines Lincoln settled for a runner-up effort.
All six of Fort Dodge’s state participants will return to the roster next year.
“It’s been a good season for all of us,” Ervin said. “The nice part is that we have everyone coming back.”
