RUTLAND – Gladys May Vesterby, 93, of Rutland, passed away March 8, 2013 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Matthew Manz officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Mrs. Vesterby is survived by her son, Larry (Sherri) Vesterby; daughter-in-law, Inga Vesterby; grandchildren, Todd (Nikki) Vesterby, Jennifer (Chris) Janssen, Drew (Kristi) Vesterby, Justin Erie, Jordan (Laura) Erie, Ron (Sherry) Vesterby, Jr., and Tearea (Pat) Vesterby; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mildred Werling; and her special cousin, Richard (Beverly) Wilcox. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joy Vesterby; son, Ron Vesterby, Sr., brother, Clarence “Pete” Werling; infant brother, Melvin Werling; and sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Charles Brown.

Gladys May Werling, the daughter of Carl and Malinda (Levine) Werling, was born August 14, 1919 at Hardy, Iowa. As a young girl, Gladys grew up in Renwick and graduated from Vernon Consolidated School in 1937. She was united in marriage to Joy Vesterby and the couple made their home at Rutland all of their married lives. Mr. Vesterby passed away in 1975 and Gladys continued to maintain her home until becoming a resident of the Humboldt Care Center South.

She was a long time member of the Trinity Lutheran Church at Rutland where she was active in circle. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting.
