No. 12 Tritons win a pair
MILLINGTON, Tenn. – The Iowa Central baseball team earned a pair of victories on Sunday.
The 12th-ranked (NJCAA Div. II) Tritons (6-1 overall) downed Lakeland and Muscatine by scores of 11-2 and 6-1, respectively.
In game one, Anthony Flattery (St. Edmond), Caleb Albrecht, Dan Potempa and Justin Threlkeld all contributed a pair of hits for Iowa Central. Flattery also drove in four, while Albrecht added three RBI and Threlkeld scored three times.
Starting pitcher Tyler Peyton (1-0) picked up the win on the mound, allowing just one run over five innings of work.
Against the Cardinals, Christian Abilla delivered three hits for the Tritons.
Andy De Jesus and Bryan Porting each went 2-for-4, and Nate Steger knocked in two. Ryan Boelter (1-0) hurled five scoreless innings in the victory.
“We played well, and our starting pitching was great,” said ICCC head coach Rick Pederson. “We had nine extra base hits from a lot of different guys in the lineup. We took a big step forward.”
Next action for Iowa Central is Wednesday when they face St. Cloud Tech in The Metrodome in Minneapolis.
