Iowa Central prevails in cold
MILLINGTON, Tenn. – The Iowa Central baseball team fought through football-type weather on Saturday, earning a 6-1 victory over Lakeland (Ohio).
In 30-degree temperatures with high gusts of winds, the Tritons pounded out eight hits and rode a combined four-hitter from their pitching staff to their sixth victory.
“I thought we played really well considering the weather,” said Iowa Central head coach Rick Pederson. “The temps were in the 30s and it was windy.
“We played errorless baseball, which is great in conditions like that.”
Sophomore Brandon Shulista (1-0) earned the win, giving up four hits and fanning seven.
Tyler Peyton went 2-for-4 for the Tritons, and Spencer Mallonee drove in two runs.
Peyton, Dan Potempa and Dalto Parrott all had doubles.
The Tritons will face Lakeland today at 10 a.m. and Muscatine at 1 p.m.
