FD man charged in local burglary
A Fort Dodge man is being held in jail on multiple charges relating to the weekend burglary of a garage.
Blaine M. Stockwell, 28, has been charged with third-degree burglary, operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, third-degree attempted burglary, interference with official acts and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The investigation began Saturday when police were called to 323 Second St. N.W. The garage at that home had been burglarized and a truck, an ATV and several motorcycles were missing, according to Police Chief Tim Carmody.
Officers found the ATV and one of the motorcycles later that day. Information on the missing truck was entered into the national crime database, National Crime Information Center.
Around 3:18 a.m. Sunday, officers were dispatched to the same house after the resident called and said someone was trying to break into the garage, according to Carmody.
When officers arrived, a man ran away from the scene. Carmody said Officer Dennis Quinn, one of the first on the scene, chased the man about a block before arresting him.
The man was identified as Stockwell.
As officers investigated, they found the stolen truck parked near the scene of the burglary. This and other evidence led them to charge Stockwell in the case.
Online court records indicate Stockwell was ordered held on $9,000 bond at his initial appearance Monday.
His preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 28.
