BRUCE D. BAUER
POCAHONTAS – Bruce D. Bauer, age 81, of Pocahontas, passed away peacefully Monday, February 18, 2013, at his home in Pocahontas, Iowa.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Pocahontas, Iowa with Fr. Paul Bormann and Fr. Dennis Sefcik officiating.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Pocahontas, Iowa, with military rites by the Pocahontas American Legion.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at the Powers Funeral Home in Pocahontas, Iowa and prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
Bruce Dale Bauer was born on October 30, 1931 at Auburn, Iowa, the son of Peter and Fern (Robson) Bauer. The family moved to a farm northwest of Pocahontas, IA when he was 4 yrs old. He graduated from Ware, IA Consolidated Schools in 1949. He served in the Army from 1952 – 1954 during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Pocahontas where he took over the family farming operation. On February 21, 1955 he was united in marriage to Catherine Bollard at Sacred Heart Church in Pocahontas. They were blessed with 5 children. In 1996 Bruce and Katy moved into town but he continued to help son Joe with the farming through fall of 2012, especially enjoying combining. He was a member of the American Legion for 59 years and a member of the Resurrection Parish. He enjoyed collecting and restoring antique tractors, camping, and especially enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Catherine “Katy”; children Diane (Steve) Boka of Muscatine, IA, Dennis (Sandy) of Pocahontas, Patricia (Gregg) Gerson of Tucson, AZ, Joseph (Kelly) of Pocahontas, and Douglas (Diane) of Altoona , IA; grandchildren Jeremy Boka and Mary Boka, Altoona, IA, Wendy Boka, San Antonio TX, Matthew and Mitchell Bauer, Pocahontas, Taylor and Danielle Bauer, Altoona and great granddaughters Lily and Lauren Boka, Altoona. Brothers Dallas (Joyce), Kendall (Elaine); sisters-in-law Ellen Bauer, LeAnn Bauer, Sharon Bauer. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Brian Boka, sisters Bonnie DeMers and Beverly Fernau, and brothers Garth and Boyd.
