King Band concert today

The Karl L. King Municipal Band of Fort Dodge will open its 2013 indoor concert season with a concert beginning at 3:30 p.m. Feb.17 in the Decker Auditorium at Iowa Central Community College. Admission is free.

The February concert always recognizes the music of the band’s namesake, Karl L. King, in celebration of his birth on Feb. 21, 1891. The music to be performed reflects a wide variety of King’s musical styles and tastes, and was heavily influenced by his career as a circus musician.

Featured soloist will be Paul Hockmuth, from Knierim.

This concert will conclude with the playing of the national anthem.

Jerrold P. Jimmerson is the conductor of the King Band, with Dr. David Klee the assistant conductor.

In case of inclement weather, the concert may be canceled. The next performance by the Karl L. King Municipal Band will be the annual Irish concert on March 17.
