MANSON – Emma M. Markert, 106, died on Tues. Feb 12, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society-Manson. Funeral services will be held on Sat. Feb. 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, rural Palmer. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Knierim. Visitation will be on Friday from 4 until 7 p.m. at Larson-Weishaar Funeral Home in Manson.

Emma Martha Strutzenberg was born at Knierim, IA, on Aug 26, 1906, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Ramthun) Strutzenberg. After receiving her education in country school, she stayed at her parents’ farm where she helped with the farm work. After his return from the service in WWI, she married John G. Markert on April 21, 1927, at Trinity Lutheran Church at Knierim and they operated their farm together until retiring in 1961. Emma is survived by her children Yvonne “Bonnie” Gates of Humboldt, IA; John “Jack” Markert of Manson, IA; Alan “Butch” (Carrie) Markert of Manson, IA; nine grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and her sister Dorothy Carlson of Fort Dodge, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John who died on Feb. 18, 1986; her grandson Lynn Markert; brothers Henry, Al, and Walter; and sister Ella.
