Florence Irene Jensen, the daughter of Walter and Jessie (Otten) Jensen, was born November 14, 1914 on the farm that her parents homesteaded near Alta, Iowa. She was raised there and graduated from High View High School where she played basketball. Florence came to Humboldt to work for her relatives, the Clayton’s, in their variety store and it was there where she met Wallace Hansen. The couple was united in marriage on both of their parent’s 25th wedding anniversary, February 22, 1936, at the Baptist Parsonage in Humboldt. They farmed together for many years in Corinth and Beaver Townships before moving to Humboldt. While Wally held his job at Reasoner Casket Company, Florence enjoyed taking in lodgers in their big home on 1st Ave South. Mr. Hansen passed away in 1989 and Florence continued to maintain her home in Humboldt. In 2006, she moved to Springvale Senior Living and in 2009, she became a resident of the Humboldt Care Center North.

Florence was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church in Humboldt. She enjoyed gardening and cooking. She bought peaches by the crate for canning and will be remembered for always keeping candy nearby for visitors.

Florence is survived by her son, Monte Hansen of Acworth, GA; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Leverson of Humboldt; grandchildren, John (Laura) Hansen of Rapid City, SD, David (Valerie) Hansen of DeBary, FL, Elizabeth (Randy) Bonde of Humboldt, and Kristin (Mitch) Helmke of Dumont; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grand- children. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wallace; her son, Jerry Hansen; and her brother, Russell Jensen.
