HUMBOLDT – A. Kathleen Rubel, 79, of Humboldt, passed away February 10, 2013 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Christy Ehrle officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Interment will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Laurel Cemetery, Laurel, MT.

Kathleen is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Andy) Lowe of Unionville, MO, Cheryl Hyland of Maxwell, NE, and Sheri (David) Peters of Humboldt; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Janis Torreyof Mossy Rock, WA; her very special friend, Lawrence Hansch of Fort Dodge; and brothers and sisters, Bob (Audrey) Christy, Jack White, Kenneth (Earlene) White, Bill (June) Casteel, Richard (Christine) Casteel, Earl (Mary) Casteel, Norma (Roger) Elliot, Larry (Connie) Casteel, Glenda (Dennis) Doughart, and Dennis Casteel.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Bill Torrey and Carl Smith; her son, Rick Torrey; and her sister, Louise.

A. Kathleen White, the daughter of Fordie J. and Lillian I. (Christy) White, was born January 24, 1934 at Hamburg, Iowa. As a child she moved with her family to the Browning, MO area where she received her education. She was united in marriage to Bill Torrey at Unionville, MO where the couple made their home. The marriage was later dissolved and in 1971, she and her family moved to Los Angeles, CA. They returned to the Midwest, settling in Humboldt, Iowa and in 1980 she married Carl Smith. The couple made their home in Laurel, MT for 15 years. Following Mr. Smith’s death, Kathleen returned to Humboldt to live near her daughter, Sheri.

Kathleen was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, quilting, jewelry making, and gardening. She loved western dancing, especially with her very special friend, Lawrence Hansch.
