Cecil Merle Holm, 74, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2013, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Cecil Holm the son of Carl and Ida Mae Holm was born on April 2, 1938 in Fort Dodge.

A visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel in Fort Dodge. A family private burial service will be at North Lawn Cemetery with full military by the VFW Post #1856 and the United States Navy Military Honor Guard.

Cecil grew up in Fort Dodge and attended Fort Dodge Schools. He joined the Navy in 1957 and later transferred to the Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged in 1961. In October of 1962 he married Mary Ellen Wiese and they made their home in Fort Dodge. Cecil worked at Trinity Regional Hospital for 30 years in the maintenance department and retired in 2002.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Ellen Holm, daughter Julie Eslick of Phoenix, AZ, Karen Beenken (Dave) of Clarion, IA, and Linda Echevarria (Chico) of Fort Dodge, IA; his grandchildren, Samantha Eslick, Anthony Welter, Mariah Echevarria, Katie Eslick, Alec Echevarria, Taylor Beenken; two great grandchildren, and his brother Carl Holm, Jr. of CA.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ida Mae Holm, sisters Katherine Johnson and Violet Osterberg, as well as an infant brother, Oscar Holm.

Cecil loved his beloved Atlanta Braves baseball team and never missed a game. In his younger years he enjoyed bowling and was on many leagues. He also loved to fish and to build model ships.
