Crop fair offers management information
This winter’s Iowa Central Community College County Crop Fair has a program designed to help local growers deal with the volatility in modern agriculture, according to organizers with the Iowa Corn Growers Association and Iowa Corn Promotion Board. The program will be from 9 a.m. until noon Feb. 20 at the BioHealth Sciences building at Iowa Central. A complimentary lunch will be served at noon.
Featured presentations include “Weather Outlook 2013” by Elwynn Taylor, climatologist with Iowa State University Extension; “Acres, Droughts and Markets” by Chad Hart, associate professor of economics with Iowa State University Extension; “Harvest Fire Safety” by the Humboldt Fire Department; and “Iowa Corn Update” by Carrie Dodds, district field manager with Iowa Corn Growers Association.
“With today’s market volatility and weather challenges, it is important to have up-to-date information,” said Dodds. “The crop fair program should give local growers access to information that can really help their bottom line.”
Sponsors of the crop fair include Iowa Central, ICGA and ICPB.
For more information or to RSVP by Feb. 18, contact Iowa Central, 362-2793, ext. 1293, or 574-1293.
The ICGA and ICPB work with local sponsors each winter to provide crop fairs across the state. The programs are intended to give producers free and direct access to timely information on issues facing Iowa agriculture.
