Reward offered in CS Bank robbery

Police believe that a new reward will help lead to the identification and capture of a robber who struck a Fort Dodge bank early Thursday.

An anonymous donor, working through Webster County Crime Stoppers, has offered $5,000 for information that leads to the capture and conviction of the robbery suspect.

The reward was announced by the Fort Dodge Police Department and Crime Stoppers Friday morning.

The announcement came a day after a man robbed CS Bank, 130 N. 29th St., around 9:15 Thursday morning.

Police Chief Tim Carmody said the suspect walked into the bank and demanded money from employees. After receiving an undetermined amount of money, the suspect, who did not display any weapons, fled the bank on foot.

The suspect reportedly ran toward the Garden Village Apartments, but investigators weren’t able to find him.

Police Capt. Roger Porter said Friday afternoon that there is no new information that can be released regarding the robbery. However, he said officers will continue to follow up on any information they receive.

Officers are also trying to determine if there is any connection between this case and a school shooting threat that was reported about 16 minutes before the robbery.

Carmody said staff at Feelhaver Elementary School, located at 1300 14th Ave. N., received a phone call from someone saying they would “shoot up the school.”

Immediately, the school went into a modified lockout, which included keeping only the main entrance of the school open to the public and monitoring who was coming and going.

The lockout ended after about an hour, but Jennifer Lane, director of communications for the Fort Dodge Community School District, said school officials remained alert all day.

Though the two incidents are being treated as separate investigations at this time, Carmody said officers are considering the possibility that they’re connected.
