Dodger girls come up short
SIOUX CITY – Cold shooting and foul trouble doomed the Fort Dodge girls Tuesday night, as Sioux City East earned its fourth straight victory, 59-33.
The Dodgers (3-16 overall) fell for the ninth consecutive time, as East (7-12) used a strong second quarter to break open a close game.
Tiana Mericle had 10 points before fouling out, while Ashley Altman swatted seven shots.
Mariah Welter added four points and nine rebounds, while Lexi Astor had six points and six steals.
“We missed four layups to start the third quarter,” FDSH head coach Scott Timmerman said. “We got a little momentum going, but things like that could have put momentum over the top.”
Timmerman also said that East dominated the offensive boards, adding, “they took twice as many shots as we did. And, when Tiana got in foul trouble, we really couldn’t keep them off the glass.”
Harlee Bauman led East with 19 points.
Fort Dodge will close out the regular season back at home on Friday night against Ames. Tip is set for 6:15 p.m.
