LAKE CITY – Melvin Myron Stokes, 88, died Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City.Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, February 7, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Lanesboro with Rev. Lexie Kirkpatrick officiating and burial in the Lanesboro Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with family present after 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City.

Melvin Stokes was born onNovember 1, 1924 to Harry and Lueda Mae (Davenport) Stokes and on November 27, 1949 he was united in marriage to Doris Lou Remsburgin Lanesboro, IA. Melvin worked as a farmer until he retired in 1991. Melvin was a member of the Lanesboro United Methodist Church.

Melvin is survived by his daughter Elaine Evans of Pleasant Hill, son Neil (Patty) Stokes of Colorado Springs, CO, daughter Leanne (Randy) Blair of Glidden, anddaughter Julie (Chris) Donnelly of Des Moines, 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Marie Stokes and Rosie Doner, Marilyn Remsburg and Kay (Edgar) Hunt, brothers-in-lawMilet Carlson, Paul Kopf, and Randy (Marlene) Remsburg, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Doris, son, Dennis Stokes, son-in-law, Bill Evans, twin brother Marvin Stokes, brother Curtis Stokes, sister Beverly Carlson, brothers-in-law Bud and Galen Remsburg and sisters-in-law Peggy McClue and Verla Kopf.
