Indians upend Gael boys

POCAHONTAS – The Pocahontas Area boys fought from behind to defeat St. Edmond 46-42 here Thursday, handing the Gaels their third straight loss.

Senior Aaron Youngberg scored 21 points for the Indians (12-7 overall), who erased a nine-point halftime deficit while holding the Gaels (12-7) to nine points after the intermission.

”It was a grinder,” PAC head coach Roger Francis said. ”We switched some things up defensively at halftime and really tried to focus on slowing down (David) Flattery and (Aaron) Chalstrom.

”Our kids showed a lot of heart fighting back. It’s good to pick up a quality win this late in the regular season against a program the caliber of (St. Edmond).”

Fellow senior Logan Jepsen added 17 points for the Indians. Youngberg and Jepsen combined to knock down six shots from behind the arc, and Youngberg was a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line while grabbing nine rebounds as well.

Junior Robby Burke paced the Gaels with 16 points, while senior Aaron Chalstrom contributed 14. The rest of the SEHS lineup had only 12 combined points.

The Gaels have dropped three games since Saturday, and they held halftime leads in all three contests. Those setbacks have come by a combined six points.

St. Edmond faces NCC leader Iowa Falls-Alden (14-3, 13-2) at home tonight. Tip is set for 7:45 p.m.
