‘Friends’ members sought
The Fort Dodge Public Library is seeking families, businesses and individuals to become financial supporters of the library this week.
Starting today, members of the board of the Friends of the Fort Dodge Public Library will hold a membership drive. They will have a table in the library with information on the group and how to become a member, where the money is used and what the board does to help.
“People can stop in anytime,” said Judy Pritchard, a member of the Friends of the Library Board. “We will have a table set up in the library all week.”
Throughout the year, the Friends group uses the donations along with proceeds from the Friends bookstore located in the library to host programs and assist the library in purchasing items they may not have the resources for in their annual budget.
“We have the bookstore that is right inside the library entrance,” said Pritchard. “The money from that helps support the library. We host the Brown Bag Briefings, have authors come in, support the children’s programs, take books out to the airport, serve on boards; just a lot of volunteer work.”
The Friends also host spring and summer book sales.
The Friends group and its activities are overseen by an 18 member board of directors, which is currently seeking a new member, Pritchard said.
“We do have an opening on the board and we are looking for a volunteer to fill the vacancy,” said Pritchard. “It’s a fun group; very friendly people to work with.”
Friends Members receive quarterly newsletter and sponsor programs and events and make many other contributions.
For more information on how to become a Friends member, stop by the Friends table at Fort Dodge Public Library, 424 Central Ave., today through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. or contact the library at 573-8167.
