Pony Express Dance is Saturday
To the editor:
The Dayton Wranglers Saddle Club will be hosting our annual Pony Express Dance on Saturday at the Webster County Fairgrounds in Fort Dodge. The club would like to thank everyone for supporting this event in the past and hope to see you there again this year. The dance will kick off at 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. with the doors opening at 7. The band performing this year is The Danny Grause Band performing old classic and new country music. Admission price is $5 for adults and $3 for kids 12 and under. “Oscar’s Hickory Cruisers” by Robin Dorman, will be serving food in the kitchen area starting at 7 p.m. There will be lots of great items donated by many local businesses on our auction starting at 9:30. Proceeds raised at this event will be donated to Easter Seals Camp Sunnyside located in Des Moines. The camp enables people with disabilities or special needs to play, learn, and grow together. The camp offers horseback riding, canoeing, swimming, hiking, arts and crafts, and many other things including special events. If you have someone interested in attending the camp visit their website at www.easterseals.com
The Pony Express Riders of Iowa started on March 30, 1968, raising $12,000 the first year. Pony Express and Easter Seals have raised over $8 million with the help of riders, volunteers, and saddle clubs like the Wranglers in the past 40 years. Webster County has donated $125,000 over the years for the camp. The final rally for the year is held on Easter weekend. You may have noticed Pony Express riders on Good Friday on a highway near you. The riders from all over the state come together and will end up at the camp on Saturday of Easter weekend. If you ask these volunteers why they do it they will tell you that the smile on these children’s faces is thanks enough. On behalf of the Wranglers, please plan to attend and support this event. If you are unable to attend and would like to donate something please contact me at 571-2832.
