Bird count succeeds

To the editor:

On behalf of the Webster County Bird Club, we would like to thank our supporters. First of all, our count totaled 47 species on our Christmas bird count, which is shy just one species from our record. The purpose for the count is to supply scientific data to the National Audubon Society and to represent Webster County.

Thanks goes out to our naturalist, Erin Ford, for allowing us to use the Prairie Resource Building to hold our annual lunch and compile our numbers. Russ Williams for not only participating in the field with us, but his very beneficial feeder count that helped us almost break our own record.

Individuals braving the weather for such important data include: Helen Meehan, Marie Schwering, Erin Ford, Russ Williams, John and Joan Robertson, Evans McWilliam, Alan Taylor, Dave Crandall, Ron and Norma Anderson, Sue Larson and Tom Johnson.

Special thanks to Hans Madsen from The Messenger for his time and talents. His entertaining stories certainly capture the club’s camaraderie.

If you’re looking for some winter fun and a chance to meet some great people, look us up for next years count.
