Triton women come up short at Kirkwood

Tritons lose at No. 4 Kirkwood

CEDAR RAPIDS – The Iowa Central women’s basketball team was unable to pull a road upset, falling to fourth-ranked (NJCAA, Div. II) Kirkwood Wednesday night, 74-50.

Babaye Oja led the Tritons (12-4 overall, 3-2 in ICCAC) with 15 points, while Katie Dentlinger added seven and five rebounds.

Miliakere Koyamainavure grabbed a team-high seven boards in the loss.

“We just couldn’t make anything,” said ICCC head coach Craig Carlson. “We were up 18-13, and then went on a real dry spell and were never able to overcome that.”

Iowa Central made just 18 of 67 shots from the field, sinking 10 three-pointers. The Eagles (16-3, 5-0) made 28 of 67 shots and were plus-10 at the free throw line.

“Looking at the rest of the stats, it’s tough because they are very close, outside of rebounding,” Carlson said. “We just couldn’t make anything.”

The Tritons return to action this Saturday at Northeast (15-2) in Norfolk, Neb. Tip is set for 2 p.m.
