JULIA EILEEN LARSON
STRATFORD – Julia Eileen Larson, 94, died Sunday morning, January 13, 2013 at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab-ilitation Center in Stratford, Iowa where she had been a resident for several years.
Eileen was born November 17, 1918 to David and Bessie (Berglund) Anderson in Boone County, Iowa.
She graduated from Stratford High School in 1935. Following high school, she worked at the Stratford Bank as a teller until she married Arnold Leslie Larson on November 20, 1938. To this union, six sons and one daughter were born.
Eileen and Arnold farmed near Stratford until Arnold’s death in 1973. Eileen moved to Stratford several years later.
In addition to being a homemaker, Eileen worked at the Stratford Public Library. She was a member of the Stratford Lutheran Church and served as Financial Secretary for many years. She was a member of the Stratford American Legion Auxiliary and Creative Writer’s Club. Eileen enjoyed writing human interest and short stories and had several published. She also relished gardening and watching birds. Eileen was a great fan of classical music and listened to it at every opportunity she had as well as enjoying the educational topics she found on public radio. She was an artist, creating many paintings that her children have proudly displayed. She was a talented seamstress and created many beautiful pieces, including quilts.
Her husband; parents; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Pearl Larson; brothers, Leonard and Ernest; and sister Helen Burgeson preceded her in death.
She is survived by a daughter Ellen Tinkum and husband Ron of Granby, Colorado; sons Bill Larson and wife Terrianne, John Larson and wife Lois, and Phil Larson and wife Toni, all of Stratford; Lowell Larson and wife Shirley of Arlington, Virginia; and Dan Larson and wife Janet of Ankeny, Iowa; 2 sisters, Mary Larson and husband Herman of Stratford and Eunice Borg of New York; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, January 19th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Stratford Lutheran Church in Stratford with Pastor Joe Lambert officiating.
Interment will be in the Mineral Ridge Cemetery in Ridgeport, Iowa.
Friends may call at the Stratford Lutheran Church, 812 Teneyck, on Friday evening, January 18th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present during that time to greet friends.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the Stratford Lutheran Church.
