Xenia tells customers to boil water

Xenia Rural Water District is advising customers of Xenia residing east of the Des Moines River in Hamilton and Webster Counties, customers north of the city of Boone and customers surrounding Story City to boil water before consumption following a water main break on Friday. The District is in the process of repairing the main and restoring service.

It is recommended to boil the water before drinking it. To do this, bring the water to a boil, let it boil for one minute and let it cool before using; or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. The water may be used for bathing and other similar purposes.

Notice will be given to the residents when the boil advisory has been lifted.
